Ayos Purwoaji (b. 1987) is a writer and curator who works along the intersection of history, architecture and visual arts. Graduated from the Product Design Department, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Surabaya. Since 2015, he has worked on exhibitions and curatorial projects. Some of them are representing his special interest on the practice of vernacular archiving and collective memory. He believes that “everyone is potentially a cultural creator”, one of which manifested when he co-founded the Surabaya Contemporary Heritage Council, a multidisciplinary group that explores critical cultural heritage discourse from below. He is also part of Kelompok Kurator Kampung, a curatorial collective that experimenting around the idea of socially engaged art and encouraging curatorial practices within the peripheral society. He teaches cultural studies at Ciputra University, Surabaya and another part of his time is spent as an active member of c2o Library & Collabtive.
